Did you know that the winter Olympics is just round the corner. Come 12 Feb 2010, the opening ceremony will be held in Vancouver Canada. I'm just so excited for them.
I know, most of us on this part of the world are not in tune with the winter games. I mean, what do we know about snowboarding and ski jumping? Though I can relate to the summer games better. And btw, just to create awareness, Singapore is hosting the first ever Youth Olympic this Aug.
Canada is a immigrant country and they are so open to the idea of people coming. (though I know there are people against it too) One news about the Olympic that caught my eyes is figure skater Patrick Chan.
First of all, Patrick is only 19 this year. He has won many medal, currently ranked 9th in the world!! That's impressive. A quick reference from the wikipedia revealed that Patrick is Han Chinese descent as both parents immigrated from Hong Kong to Canada. Patrick is now second generation Canadian. And he is representing Canada this year at the winter games.
I want to say to my fellow Singaporean- Have a immigrant attitude. Accept the people who are coming or are already in Singapore. After all, we are immigrants too!!! Remember that not too long ago, your grandparents or even your parents are nation of another origin. Why take pains to differentiate one's place of birth.
As for me, if you are willing to come, I'm willing to accept you. I've got at least 3 close friends who become Singaporean. And even is they are non-Singaporean, so what? Big deal!! My close friend Jason is Malaysian and Bernard is Filipinos. So come one, come all!
