In mainland China, there are a diversified impression on Singapore. Singapore is clean and beautiful. Chewing gum is prohibited. Security is excellant. Sentosa is the main tourist attraction. There aren't alot of poor people.1 guys thought that Singapore was part of China, something like Hong Kong and Macau.
Singapore singers are well-known here. At the record store, you can find Ah Do, Lin Jun Jie and most of all Sun Yanzi. So far, i've not seen Tanya Chua's album but I've heard in played in stores. Somehow, when you heard someone's phone or a particular store playing Singapore artist songs, there's a great sense of pride. You feel like going up to the store keeper or the guy holding the phone to tell them that that's a Singapore artist, and I am from SINGAPORE too!
Many are also surprise that a Singaporean like me can speak Putonghua. Most frequently ask questions are: What is the percentage of Chinese? What is the official language? How big is Singapore? How's the weather like?
Last night, i went to a book store. I manage to find a book on SEA with Singapore included.
