I am incline to agree with the report that we are happy ppl because of our strong community. I have 6 immediate family, 5-10 best friends, 30 over good friends and thousand over people I know. I strongly believe Singaporeans should be happy people, considering the quality life we have in Singapore.
It's sad that there are always nasty Singaporean who are unhappy with their life due to trivial things (for e.g. they complain that there are only 3 buses plying Punggol Road). They are also very fond of engaging in heated argument online. Unfortunately, these are also the group of ppl who left most of the comments online, whether it is Straitstimes.com or abcnews. Hopefully readers are mature enough to read their negative comments in contexts. They do not represent the nation.
I was watching a Vodcast on http://www.straitstimes.com
A 23 year old journalist claims that Singapore lacks civil liberty.
MM Lee: "Are you a Singaporean...how old are you...what school did you go to...??"
23 year old journalist answer sheepishly: " why does it matter?"
MM Lee:" It does matter...give me an example of where your freedom of speech or your first freedom and expression has been limited...Then I will answer your question... Now you have made a broad statement..."
Would you be able to answer MM Lee's question if you shares the some sentiment as the young journalist? I find myself having difficulty answering MM Lee's intriguing question. Maybe one, my mum told me police will come and catch me if I scream in the house. Does that count???
